Happy Halloween! (a hint at CHEMCAD version 7.0)

Aaron, our resident mad scientist, hard at work on version 7.0!



Great news: we're in limited beta testing for the new version.  Our focus has been the flowsheeting tools (symbols, streams, look and feel), and you'll still see a number of engineering improvements (a gas membrane UnitOp is coming, for example).  We are incorporating a much more modern toolset with an eye toward (1) fitting in with other drawing/flowsheeting tools standards, and (2) addressing the 6 years of feedback from the 6.X versions. Nothing too scary, so stay tuned here for more information.

  1. Well I know that it is good software. I can see the new interface of version 7.0 but I like maybe you can out of the arrows to look like a really Process Flow Diagram.

  2. Simulation and optimization of extractive distillation sequence with pre-separator for the ethanol dehydration using n-butyl propionate.

    Extractive distillation is the most promising alternative for the ethanol-water separation than azeotropic and pressure swing distillation using suitable solvent n-Butyl propionate. We have studied, simulated, optimized and economically evaluated the separation of a mixture of 50 mole% ethanol and 50 mole% water to treat the 16 Kmol/hr (512.67 kg/hr) of the original mixture. Rigorous simulation and optimization has been carried out by means of a software CHEMCAD version 6.5 using thermodynamic model UNIQUAC with binary interaction parameters. The simulations allow us to conclude that extractive distillation is more economical and trustworthy than pressure swing distillation due to the relative pressure insensitive nature of the ethanol-water mixture after the azeotropic composition. The separation of 99.7% of ethanol from ethanol water mixture claim by Mulia-Soto, Flores-Tlacuahuac, 2011 is contradictory as the feasibility for the operating pressure of 10 atm with or without heat integration.

  3. Maybe you can learn of Aspen Plus or Aspes Hysys, these software are very good interface and maybe you have to improve more your software like PETRO-SIM REFINING. I know that they have a lot operation to refinery.

  4. Please if you can do it this with CHEMCAD it'll amazing because I can understand more about any process and it look very nice. I recomend you that your flowsheet seem as these PDF from Sequential (Recycle) Calculations (HELP CHEMCAD) I like very much and I feel that I can work very easy with this, I don't like how look like the flowsheet with units operation with a dark color is very sad for me.

  5. We are a group of chemical engineers that we work with chemcad but if you try to do it more grafical please joint with VISIO of Microsoft because we think that is a good tool to make PDI or PDF. It will great if think about it. thanks !!!

  6. Does Chemstations do modeling, simulation, or consulting for its customers? No, ...
    Why not ? You have a software and you can learn about it's application in industry. I have read that you earned only 8.0 MM dollars in 2013 while Aspen Technology earn 290.0 MM dollars in this same year because they have a lot of project in simulation or consulting. You have a opportunity to improve your software and get be more competitive so this is a moment to get up and try it !!!

  7. hello, could you improve the input of units like aspen plus or hysys because it's hard work to do clik again in engineering units or press F6 to convert units.

  8. I want to see my distillation columns with it's stages like COCO simulator, I wan to see my diagram like a PID. COME ONE GUYS I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO IT BETTER ! :D

Seria excelente si mejoran el software en el aspecto gráfico, seria muy útil poder ver el proceso en estado dinámico como un sistema SCADA, seria genial para el entrenamiento de operadores en columnas de destilación, mejorar la interfaz gráfica de las columnas como TOWER PLUS que es muy anticuada y no permite ver como funcionan los despojadores, pumparound etc, creo que pueden mejorar el software de simulación dándole de mas capacidades graficas y cambiar el sistema de graficos ya que es muy anticuado. Mejorar la comunicación con excel y office. Hacer una benchmarking de los software actuales en el mercado y no solo enfocarse en las grandes empresas si no tambien en los software que compiten con cada modulo que manejan y mejorarlos.

Estimados amigos de Chemstation inc. estuve investigando sobre software de simulación en el mercado y creo que ustedes tienen un gran desafió por delante para competir con empresas como ASPENTECH (Aspen Plus y Hysys), INVENSYS (ahora de Schneider Electric con su software SimSci Design), Honeywell (con Unisim Design) y KBC Advanced Technologies (Petro-SIM) la recomendacion es hacer un benchmarking de todos los sofware hacer encuestas a sus actuales clientes y a los que no. Mejorar sus productos y aumentar la calidad de su pagina y documentos, proveer una larga y mejor descripción de sus módulos no solo un par de lineas. Mejorar la interfaz gráfica, hacerla mas profesional y que sea mas fácil de utilizar por operadores e ingenieros y sobretodo el aspecto del software, creo que chemcad 7.0 deberia tener un nuevo look, un poco mas profesional e interactivo. Implementar un área de consultoría para garantizar que el usuario que compra su software vea los resultados en el primer año cuando ustedes puedan optimizar su proceso, creo que tienen clientes de ingeniería pero recuerden que ellos no solo usan su software y también el de la competencia. Inviertan en investigación y desarrollo del software y también en la parte de marketing, tienen que ser agresivos en ese aspecto. y claro esta la innovación, sean creativos e innovadores para ofrecer a sus clientes la mejor herramienta de simulación de procesos. recuerden la palabra clave BENCHMARKING !!!
